English Fire section here as a whole part of my web site?
Well its precisely because of the controversy it has been causing amongst
Fire Bomber and Macross 7 fans. Read on...

My review :
2 out of 5
My comments:
Voices: Alright. They suck. Different people have said they
hate either one or both of the singers they used. Personally I find June (the female
vocalist) to be fine on her own, but I can't STAND Rak. Both of them sound
way too old! No offense to anyone intended, but Rak sounds like he's about 30, and
June, whilst ok, certainly does NOT sound 16. Yes, ok,
Japanese are more high-pitched and squeeky
voices generally when it comes to female singers (of any age), but it just does not
sound quite right to fit with those Fire Bomber tunes.
Lyrics: These vary from appalling to quite good. Even within the same song!!
Some stick to the original meaning quite well, others
are totally different. 'My Friends' still doesn't make any sense (^_^).
IF some of them were sung better...
say... by a band called "British Bomber" (from
Macross 13) then some would definately be quite good!!
With a bit of work, some of the bad lines could
be ironed out of the songs. I believe British
Bomber's versions are a bit different.
I hope to add those to this web site later.
Particular track comments: I personally quite like
Sweet Fantasy and My Friends.
If the vocals were better I would like both Remember 16 and Light the Light
as I am very impressed with some of the English lyrics they came up with.
One song that goes the other way is Kimi ni todoke, where I don't mind the way
it's sung, but I dislike how they've changed the lyrics.
The rest are all pretty bad. Especially Holy Lonely Light and
Try Again. They have REALLY butchered
(BUTCHERED!!! BUTCHERED LIKE A PIG I TELL YOU!!) Totsugeki
Love Heart. The English line is "You're in charge of my heart!".
When I first heard that, I wanted to kill someone, as of course
that is NOTHING LIKE what Totsugeki is about and the reasons why
I love it are destroyed. I was calling this English
version of Totsugeki the worst Macross related song EVER!
However..
I sometimes have this ability to love things I think are
really crap... and for some strange reason I cannot explain
I really quite enjoy this Totsugeki now (along with a lot of
the rest of English Fire), precisely because
it is so bad (and so different)... I now actually find it very
funny to listen to! [GRIN]
Comparison: FB American are onto a total loser here. In comparison
to the real Fire they really are DIRE. But taken on its own merits...
Overall:
Definately NOT recommended, but not as bad as everyone thinks.
One KEY point for me is that it's NOT supposed to be Fire Bomber!
This has confused some people, as they don't realise that FB American
are a totally new band in the Macross mythos. IF for example these
English versions were passed off as the real Fire Bomber singing in
English, then I can tell you all my good natured attitude towards
this CD would quickly dissappear and I would be slating it worse than
the lot of you who hate it! ;)
It's just about worth buying it for the novelty value,
if you haven't heard it and some of the stuff from the inlay
is hilarious when translated.
I'll be adding as much as I can to this site!
But in many many ways this CD is just pointless. I mean, you still want
to sing along to the Japanese lines anyway! Part of the problem
is that only hardcore Western fans of Fire Bomber are going to
know about or try to get this CD... and they are exactly the people
who are not bothered about the music being in Japanese anyway.
