English Fire Rumours
The advent of English Fire!! certainly set off quite a few
rumours and speculation! Some of it perhaps started by myself as well.
Yoshiki Fukuyama and Chie Kajiura singing in ENGLISH??
Of course if you've read the credits to English Fire on the right menu, you'll
already know that this isn't true.
It is NOT the same FB singers singing
in English for the CD. Although personally I would still like to see this
attempted! I think they would have done a better job than the
actual singers they used. Ok, it would have been very Japlish and
badly accented, but that would be actually really cool if you
ask me! ^_^
An English version of Macross 7 is going to be released?
I can see where this idea comes from. Obviously if any Western
company did want to release Macross 7 on video, or air it on TV,
they would have been stumped with a MAJOR hurdle before they even
did anything else - the need to replace all the music if
they wanted to dub the series, or make it at all marketable to
a general Western audience. But English Fire covers almost
all the songs that are used to any extent in the series... so it
does provide the majority of a quick 'plug-over' soundtrack. In fact
I have thought quite carefully about the possibility of this, and the
only track I can see a remaining problem with is "Riding in your
Valkyrie" (Barukiri na notte) that the Jamming Birds sing (originally
from Macross II). Yes, not
all the other songs are covered, but all the rest are easily replaced.
To make life easier though - there is already an English singalong version of the lyrics to
Riding in your Valkyrie...
However! All of this is PURE speculation. As yet, no Western company
has announced any planned release of Macross 7, and as far as I have
heard none have even shown any interest. Personally I don't think it
will ever happen. Macross 7 is hardly likely target material for
anyone wanting to release anime in the West. To be honest it is a
brave move for even an anime club or convention to show Mac7, given the
hostile reaction by many fans (and idiots...). So I very much doubt,
even if "English Fire-d" there will be any release.
One MAJOR
logistical reason for this for this is that the series is so long.
49 episodes, plus all the other stuff... it just doesn't make financial
sense for any Western anime company to release a series this long I'm
afraid. There are exceptions obviously... but on material as iffy
as Macross 7... would even YOU take the risk?
