YF-19

Test model valkyrie piloted by Isamu Dyson. Similar to the fighters already used by UN Spacy, it is obviouslly faster and more powerful than production models. It uses a traditional control system and so the capabilities of the fighter rely mostly on the skills and intuition of the pilot. After the events of Macross Plus, the YF-19 is chosen as the winner of the trials and goes into production as the VF-19.

YF-21

Test model valkyire piloted by Guld Goa Bowmann. A radically different design with stealth technology and a completely neural control system. (Linked directly the pilots brain) Since the craft is directly controlled by the pilot's thoughts it does not rely on piloting skills in the traditional sense. If the pilot can keep his thoughts calm and focused, the craft can operate with amazing levels of speed and accuracy without relying on pilot's reflexes. (The drawback of course being that if the pilot's thoughts are clouded the ship can become unstable) Even though it lost the trials, it was put into limited production for special uses as the VF-19, but with a more conventional control system.

GHOST FIGHTER X

The pilot-less craft never made it past the prototype stages. The AI repeatedly proved unstable, caring more about survival than following it's objectives. Meaning it was too unreliable to use in a real combat scenario.
