MACROSS PLUS: THE MOVIE

What is it?
A movie version of the OAV series was produced that edited together the entire story into one theartical version. It included new scenes that improved sections people were disappointed with in the original released. Also, the arrangement of scenes and music tracks was changed giving it a different pacing and feel than the original.

How was it released?
It was originally released at the cinemas in Japan along with the 30 minutes Macross 7 movie. Since then it has been commerically released on videos in the US and UK, in Japanese with English subtitles.

Why no Dub?
Although Managa Entertainment had originally planned to produce a dubbed version of the movie, they were delayed because of the technical difficulties that occured with the dubbing of Volume 4. It's just speculation but I think that when they finally got Volume 4 done Macross Plus was starting to get old and rather than invest more time and money into the series they decided it was easier to just release a subtitled version. Also, this was around the time when Manga Entertainment was starting to loose popularlity because of their stream of bad titles and so cutting the costs of producing a re-dub probably seemed a wise move.

Differences
I will eventually like to inlcude a detailed list of differences between the OAV and the Movie. For now I can tell that the most noticable difference is the fight between Guld and the Ghost fighter was made a lot more exciting and dramatic with the outcome a lot more ambiguous.
